French invader, Theo Boulet retained his overnight lead to take a one shot advantage into moving day at the Irish Boys Amateur Open at Belvoir Park.
Boulet added a level par 71 to his four-under 67 on day one to head Lisburn’s Joshua Robinson and Welshman Archie Davies who remain in striking distance at three-under.
Robinson, who held the lead towards the close of his second round, went bogey, double bogey on 16 and 17 to drop down into a share of second spot in Belfast.
There’s plenty of Irish in close attendance with Nenagh’s Scott O’Brien just one shot further adrift after a super four-under-par 67 of his own that included six birdies on the picturesque parkland.
Athenry’s David Kitt sits one stroke further behind in solo 5th after adding a 73 to his opening 68 while Baltinglass’ Joseph Byrne is the only other player at par or better after 36-holes, finding himself in a sound position at even par.
If there was one to watch amongst the field in behind, then Holywood’s Tom McKibbin, who made his European Tour debut at the Shot Clock Masters in Austria, is that man. The teen sensation is lurking in a tie for 10th at plus two knowing he’s more than capable of going low to put the pressure on the leaders.
