Ireland’s Leona Maguire carded her 22nd career top-five finish for Duke University at the Liz Murphy Collegiate Classic on the University of Georgia Course, finished T3 in the process and  and helping her Duke team to a tied second place in the tournament.

Duke turned in rounds of 292, 288 and 285 for a score of 865 and The Blue Devils shot three-under on the front nine Saturday morning led by a three-under, 33, by sophomore Ana Belac and Duke was even par on the final nine holes.

“We had a great round [today],” said Duke head coach Dan Brooks. “Our last two rounds, if you combine them, were tied for the low for the tournament for those two days, so that’s a great way to close.”

Leona Maguire finished the weekend only one shot off the individual lead and tied third overall with rounds of 70, 69 and 71 for a six-under, 210 and her top 5 finish ranks her second on Duke’s all-time charts.  After opening her round with a bogey on No. 1, she got her score back to even par with a birdie on the sixth hole.  Maguire added a bogey on No. 7, but closed the day with a two-under-par ledger over the final 11 holes.  She notched birdies on No. 9 and No. 17 during that stretch.  Maguire hit 14 fairways, 14 greens and had 30 putts.  After hitting a season-low nine fairways in the first round, Maguire went on to not miss one over the final two rounds.

Lisa Maguire, signed for her second round of even or under Saturday as she notched a 72.  After collecting three consecutive pars to open the day, Lisa drained her first birdie of the tournament on the fourth to go to one-under.  She added bogeys on No. 6 and No. 8 to fall to one-over, but responded with back-to-back birdies on No. 9 and No. 10 to get back to red numbers.  Maguire posted seven pars and added a bogey on the 16th to close with a 72.  She hit 14 greens, eight fairways and registered 32 putts.

Alabama won the title with an 849, while Arkansas (865), Duke (865), Georgia (871) and Baylor (880) rounded out the top five teams.  Over the final two rounds, Duke shot a tied for team-best 573 score along with Alabama.
