The British Amateur Boys & Girls Championships have now entered the match play stages and of the squads that travelled Ireland has 4 boys and 2 girls remaining in the competition.

BOYS BRITISH AMATEUR

Scotland’s Darren Howie led the qualifiers for the match play stage of the 91st Boys Amateur Championship at Nairn and Nairn Dunbar..
The 17-year-old carded a level par round of 72 at Nairn to finish on an eight-under-par total of 136 for the two stroke play qualifying rounds, one shot clear of Frenchman Aymeric Laussot and England’s Alex Fitzpatrick.

Ireland had 15 players n the field but only four have survived with high profile casualties such as Irish Boys Champion Mark Power who finished two shots outside the cut mark following rounds of 75 and 73. David Kitt (Athenry) was the leading Irish qualifier as he posted a two under total score for a T14 finish. Next best was Luke O’Neill (Connemara) and Jack Doherty (Carton House) on +2 for T56.

The cut fell on two-over-par with 74 players progressing to the match play stage. A preliminary round will be held first thing this morning where Connemara’s Luke O’Neill takes on Elliot Anger of France.before the second round gets underway. Each match will consist of one round of 18 holes before concluding with a 36 hole final on Sunday.

GIRLS BRITISH AMATEUR

Another Scot, Shannon McWilliam led the qualifiers for the match play stage of the Girls British Open Amateur Championship at Enville Golf Club.. McWilliam posted a one-under-par 71 to finish on a three-under-par total of 141 for the two stroke play qualifying rounds.

Ireland had five players in the field with Lauren Walsh (Castlewarden) and Valeria Clancy (Killarney) both making it to the match play stages with Walsh 14th after rounds of 72 and 73 for a one over par total while Clancy qualified on the mark of +8 after rounds of 77 and 75.
