It was another day of extremely testing weather conditions at Lahinch for the second round of the qualifying stage at the 116th South of Ireland Championship.

Leading by two shots heading into the day, having been the only player not over par after the first day, Hermitage’s Rowan Lester, the current North of Ireland Champion, claimed the silver medal as leading qualifier.
Lester returned a second round 71, the only under par round of the day, to lead qualifying on one oder par by four shots from Robin Dawson (Tramore) who was next best on +3.
Former South of Ireland Champion Robbie Cannon was third in qualifying, posting rounds of 76 and 73. Defending champion Conor Purcell also made it through to the match play stages adding a 76 in round two to share sixth place. Stuart Grehan, who took the title in 2015, also progressed following rounds of 78 and 76.
When all was said and done the cut fell at 160 as three players on that mark missed out: TJ Ford, Ryan McKinstry and Ben Murray the unlucky ones. Seven players made it through on the number.
