Paul Conroy edged out his Maynooth teammate Allan Hill to claim the R&A Student Series – Portugal event at Troia Golf.

The Maynooth juggernaut was in full swing this week and it always seemed a matter of ‘who’ would add to their bulging trophy cabinet.

In the end it was Enniscorthy man Conroy who made a clutch birdie at the last in an even-par round of 72 to take the title at one-under par.

Hill took out second spot at even par to finish ahead of another Maynooth student, Dun Laoghaire’s Alan Fahy who fired a best-of-the-day 67 to tied third alongside David Kitt at plus-one.

Meanwhile Stirling’s Louise Duncan romped home in the women’s event by a stunning 12 strokes as UCC’s Rachel Thompson finished the best of the Irish on 232.
