When designing footwear, adidas looks everywhere for inspiration. This time, it came through a quote: “Be unique. Be equal.” The quote comes from ZOZO’s company philosophy, who adidas has partnered with adidas to introduce the exclusive, limited-edition colourway of its Stan Smith Golf.

The limited-edition footwear was designed in celebration of the tournament’s return to Japan following a one-year absence where the tournament was played in the United States in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Inscribed on the heel of the limited-edition footwear is this philosophy – “Be unique. Be equal.” – a charge driven by ZOZO’s hope that we can all help create a world where both uniqueness and equality are valued.

The all-black upper (the result when all colours are mixed) and eye-catching multi-coloured outsole (representative of the uniqueness we all have as individuals) are deliberate, meant to embody this powerful declaration to all.

“We are honoured to celebrate the return of the ZOZO Championship to Japan with this truly special collaboration with the tournament host,” said Masun Denison, global director of footwear, adidas Golf.

“In the process of our collaboration with ZOZO, their company philosophy of “Be unique. Be equal.” really spoke to our team and resonated with us as brand. We wanted to somehow capture this bold declaration within a special design, so we’re extremely proud with how the finished product came together, especially since it’s on one of our most iconic silhouettes.”

The Stan Smith is adidas’ classic silhouette that the company first brought to golf earlier this year. This will be the fourth model they’ve introduced, which features an upper made in part with recycled materials, all part of adidas’ mission as a brand to help END PLASTIC WASTE.

To celebrate the tournament’s return to Japan, we feel this collaboration is a perfect fit. We’re excited to give our fans the opportunity to wear this special edition shoe at this year’s ZOZO Championship!“

The Stan Smith Golf features an adiwear rubber spikeless outsole with traction inspired by the shoe’s original sole design. A die-cut PU sockliner is included and additional PU cushioning in the midsole to provide golf-specific support in every step. This version is also waterproof (one-year warranty) to help keep feet dry.

This limited-edition will also come with a commemorative shoe bag inspired by the shoe’s design. This simple and yet unique version of Stan Smith Golf will be available in limited quantities on, the adidas app, and at select retail partners worldwide beginning Friday, October 15, with availability in Japan beginning October 18.
