Mehaffey fails to progress at LPGA Q-School

Olivia Mehaffey will have to go back to the drawing board for next season after her hopes of claiming an LPGA Tour card came to an end as she crashed out of Q-School at the Second Stage. Needing to finish in the top-45 in order to progress to next month's Final Stage,...

Dutch golfer Joost Luiten has co-designed his own golf shoes to meet the rigorous demands of a European Tour season that saw him walk more than 510 kilometres (317 miles) in tournament play last year.

Signing with Italian golf fashion brand Duca del Cosma in January gave the six-time Tour winner the opportunity to work with Head Designer Baldovino Mattiazzo and come up with his own spikeless footwear to help him perform at his best this season.

The exclusive shoes named after him in the new Joost Luiten Collection from Duca del Cosma combine the waterproof upper of the award-winning BELAIR model with the sole of the new ELPASO shoe. The distinctive style comes in two colour options – White/Camouflage Green (JL1) and Black/White (JL2), with contrasting orange detailing and laces that resemble the colour he wears when playing on Sunday in tournaments around the world.

He has also modified the brand’s sporty FLYER (JL3) style in White/Orange, that will likely feature in practice rounds on courses with firmer ground and be worn both on and off the golf course.

“I was really surprised when Duca told me I walked more than half a million yards (559,612) in tournaments last season or over 510 kilometres…and that didn’t include practice rounds or Pro-am events,” said Joost. “It shows just how important it is for me to have a pair of comfortable as well as functional shoes when I cover so much ground in different playing conditions across Tour events In Europe, the Middle East and South Africa.

“These new shoes in the Joost Luiten Collection are among the most comfortable golf shoes I’ve ever worn and I’m very proud to be wearing attractive and comfortable Duca del Cosma shoes that are designed and made to such a high standard in Europe,” he added.

Commenting on his collaboration with Joost, Head Designer Baldovino Mattiazzo said: “It was a pleasure to work with Joost, who had a clear idea of what was needed when it comes to golf shoes that perform and remain comfortable day after day on Tour.”

The JL1 & JL 2 models come in soft Italian Nappa leather, with an integrated waterproof sock system with recyclable microfibre and a Duca Cor Linza MTP 2.5mm Aqua stop lining with taped seams to keep the feet dry. The removable, moisture absorbent and breathable ARNEFLEX insert sole offers an antibacterial memory foam covered with OnSteam recyclable microfibre for long-lasting comfort and ventilation, while the heel is supported with recycled cork. The high-quality Airplay XI outsole provides excellent stability during the swing. The JL3 is made from soft, fully recyclable and water resistant microfibre and has an Airplay IX outsole with cone-shaped nubs across the complete surface for optimal grip.

Shoes from the new Joost Luiten Collection are available at an RRP of €199. Details of the full Duca del Cosma SS21 range can be found at www.ducadelcosma.com
