Wilson Golf is building on the success of its D7 range by launching the D7 Forged irons –
combining distance, looks and feel to create a pure players iron with true Tour level appeal
for the 2020 season.

Proven Power Hole Technology has been taken to the next level by incorporating a
Urethane filled Power Chamber inside the head and lower on the club face that flexes on
impact. This combination allows the inner face to flex while reducing vibration for a more
solid and consistent feel at impact.
Along with improved sound, the D7 Forged irons feature a new club head design – including
a more compact head and ideal toe height – with a thinner topline and minimal offset to
deliver ultimate distance and feel.
The thin club face is forged from soft 8620 Carbon steel and features a wider-sole supported by the Power Chambers. The thicker sole allows for more aggressive Power Holes and a lower Centre of Gravity to drive high ball speeds with a higher launch and spin.

“Combining the distance technologies from the original D7 line with the aesthetics of Wilson
Staff’s players irons, the D7 Forged irons provide an ideal blend of maximum distance and
ultimate feel for golfers looking for effortless distance and ultimate control,” said Jon
Pergande, Manager of Golf Club Innovation. “Through the optimized sole and face
thickness, urethane-filled Power Chamber and centered power holes, the new D7 Forged
provides golfers world-class ball speeds, shot-making ability and a soft forged feel across
the entire club face,” he added.

The brand with more Major victories with its irons than any other (62), has enjoyed another successful season with multiple wins on both the PGA and European Tours, including the US Open at Pebble Beach using a mix of its Staff Model Blades and the award-winning FG Tour V6 and C300 irons.
“As a brand, Wilson has the pedigree of producing some of golf’s best irons over the years
and I believe we’ve continued the trend with the D7 Forged,” added Jon.

IGM VERDICT

Wilson’s answer in the player-distance category — an iron that has a foot firmly planted in two categories, and builds upon the success of the original D7 launched in 2018.

There is no question that Wilson’s D7 Forged looks like something you’d find out on Tour. And it’ll surface at some point this season, possibly in Padraig Harrington’s bag. The thin top line, minimal offset, and a blade length and face height more in line with what you’d find from a smaller cavity-back iron should appeal to better players. It delivers a very soft feel while maintaining the ability to shape the ball with tonnes of forgiveness included, especially in the long irons.

The urethane-filled Power Chamber reduces vibrations while increasing speed at the same time. The new Power Hole structure in the variable thickness sole works with the 8620 carbon steel face to produce more ball and spin with a higher launch angle. If you are in the market for a new set of irons in 2020 the D7 Forged with to go head-to-head with other player-distance irons in this category.

The Wilson Staff D7 Forged irons are available from mid-January 2020, with stock shaft
options of the premium lightweight KBS S-Taper in steel and True Temper Catalyst Black 80 in graphite. The irons come with a Golf Pride Tour Velvet grip.
They will have an RRP of £699/€799 (4-PW) and £599/€689 (5-PW) for steel shafts and
£699/€799 for graphite shafts (5-PW). Both shaft options come in right and left-handed
options. Other irons (3, SW & GW) are available by custom fit.
