Maynooth University student Aodhagan Brady is the best of the bunch heading into the final day of the 16th King Hamad Trophy at Royal Golf Club, Bahrain.

Brady sits in a share of 12th place in this professional and amateur event on two-over-par after bouncing back from an opening 77 with a much improved 69.

The Sligo man struggled to find the bottom of the cup early on and was dealt a blow when a towering approach shot to the par-4 5th rattled the flag stick and spun back into the water costing him a dropped shot.

He bounced back from that with three birdies in a row and added further birdies on 12 and 14 with just two bogeys coming on 13 and 18.

“Played nicely today, hit it pretty solid all day,” explained Brady after his round. Just didn’t really hole many putts early in the round, hitting the pin on 5 and going back into the water.

“I made three birdies in a row with three good iron shots into those holes. I was very solid on the way in with just a sloppy bogey on the last, hit a wedge in and it spun off the green.

“Overall it was very solid and 69 was a good enough score.”

English professional Tom Sloman leads the way on five-under-par with former touring professional Zane Scotland (-3) and DP World Tour winner Adri Arnaus (-1) of Spain in case pursuit.

Maynooth University have four students competing in the event with Brady the strongest thus far after carding six birdies and three bogeys in his second round as he shot up the leaderboard.

Also joining him in making the 36-hole cut are his compatriots Liam Abom on four-over, Simon Walker and Thomas Abom on five-over while Alistair Hess made the cut on the number at plus eleven.
